What outbound ports are required for the TrueSight Pulse Meter to work properly?

The TrueSight meter requires TCP network access at runtime and installation time. This article provides the details on the required network hosts and ports that need to be accessible at installation and runtime.

To verify that the meter has access to a particular host you can run the following command from server where you will be running the meter:

telnet <host> 443

The remainder of this article provides details on the specific network hosts that need to be accessible at installation and runtime.

Runtime

At runtime the TrueSight Pulse meter connects to the Pulse service at the host api.truesight.bmc.com on port 443.

Meter Installation

Meter installation consists of downloading a package suitable for the desired platform and additional a setup script for Linux/UNIX platforms.

The network host that needs to be accessible to download the setup_meter.sh script is meter.truesight.bmc.com.

Each of the different platforms supported by the meter have a different host to access their respective software package which contains the meter. The table here lists the platform and its respective host:

Platform Host
Ubuntu apt.truesight.bmc.com
CentOS, RHEL yum.truesight.bmc.com
FreeBSD freebsd.truesight.bmc.com
Alpine alpine.truesight.bmc.com

For Windows setup_meter.sh is not used, instead there is a MSI package that is downloaded, which requires access to windows.truesight.bmc.com via port 443.

For OS/X setup_meter.sh is not used, instead there is a package that is downloaded, which requires access to mac.truesight.bmc.com via port 443.

Meter Plugin Installation

Installation of meter plugins requires access to github.com on port 443.

Therefore we urge you to not whitelist IPs addresses as they are subject to change.
