How to Configure Communication Alarms

Communication Alarms trigger when the data stream from the selected source(s), and optionally the selected metric, is interrupted. Communication Alarms come in these varieties:

  • Host Communication Alarms trigger when data from the selected host stops arriving.
  • API Metric Communication Alarms trigger when data for a specific metric from the selected source stops arriving for the duration of the configured period.

Configuring a Host Communication Alarm

  1. Click on the Alarm icon in menu pane or select the Settings -> Alarm menu items from the Settings menu to display the Alarm configuration dialog.
  2. Click on the green button in lower right of the dialog labeled Add Alarm and then an Alarm configuration dialog will be displayed.
  3. identify the alarm by entering text into the Name field.
  4. From the Alarm on drop down menu select the Communication menu item.
  5. From the Monitor on drop down menu select the Host menu item.
  6. Select the desired filter from the Source Filter drop down menu.
  7. From the Period drop down menus select the desired period after which not hearing from a host to trigger the alarm.
  8. From the Actions drop down menu select the desired action to fire if this alarm is triggered.
  9. In the Note field add any supplementary text to be associated with the alarm.

 

Configuring a API Metric Communication Alarm

  1. Click on the Alarm icon in menu pane or select the Settings -> Alarm menu items from the Settings menu to display the Alarm configuration dialog.
  2. Click on the green button in lower right of the dialog labeled Add Alarm and then an Alarm configuration dialog will be displayed.
  3. identify the alarm by entering text into the Name field.
  4. From the Alarm on drop down menu select the Communication menu item.
  5. From the Monitor on drop down menu select the API Metric menu item.
  6. From the API Metric drop down menu select the desired Metric to trigger upon if measurements are not received.
  7. Select the desired filter from the Source Filter drop down menu.
  8. From the Period drop down menu select the desired period after which the absence of a measurement from the selected metric will trigger the alarm
  9. From the Actions drop down menu select the desired action to fire if this alarm is triggered.
  10. In the Note field add any supplementary text to be associated with the alarm.
