StatsD Configuration Guide

As of release 4.3.1-686, the BMC TrueSight Pulse Meter can act as a statsd metrics aggregator. We support four statsd metrics types - Timers, Counters, Gauges, and Sets. We additionally support the Dogstatsd extensions for events and tagging.

The article below tells you how to turn on statsd support in the meter. For more detail on implementation, configuration and metric naming please see our StatsD QuickStart Guide (400kb).

The TrueSight Pulse meter is intended to be an "out of the box" replacement for other statsd aggregators such as collectd that provides the advantages of modern SaaS architecture and one-second resolution. By default, the statsd listener in the meter is disabled to ensure we don't cause conflicts with other existing solutions that may be present on your host machine.

Further information regarding the core metrics types can be found at StatsD Metrics.

Additional information regarding client support libraries in a variety of languages can be found under the Client Implementations section at StatsD client libraries.

To enable statsd aggregation in the meter, do this:

  • Upgrade the meter if it is not the latest version
  • Stop the Meter if it's running
  • Edit the meter.conf file and change the "enable" field in the statsd_sink section from false to true:
"statsd_sink":{
"enable":true,
"port":8125
},

The Meter will now listen for StatsD UDP packets on port 8125.
